Attorney
Chelsea N. Thomas

Background

Chelsea Thomas is a firm believer that the law is not one-size-fits-all and every individual, including criminal defendants, deserve individualized representation that takes into account who he or she is as a person, not just what he or she is accused of doing. She knows that the justice system is far different than it was when the Bill of Rights was ratified as part of the Constitution – and most of these changes have been to the detriment of the accused.

A metro-Atlanta native and the first lawyer in her family, Chelsea completed her psychology degree at Georgia State University in only three years, graduating magna cum laude. She immediately started law school afterwards, graduating from Emory University School of Law in 2017. Her first job after law school was in a small criminal defense firm, and she quickly learned that she had found her calling.

Chelsea practices in federal courts nationwide and Georgia state courts, focusing primarily on felony offenses and DUI. Chelsea enjoys criminal defense work for two main reasons: First, she enjoys helping real people – people who may have made a mistake and need help navigating the criminal justice system. Secondly, Chelsea is extremely passionate about mental health. She knows that there are many individuals who wind up in the criminal justice system due to their inability to obtain proper diagnosis and treatment for their mental health issues and works to correct this system through her cases.

Chelsea is a straight shooter. She works with her clients to look at their cases from every perspective, helping the client better understand the different options available to them in resolving their case. While she always tries to obtain the best possible outcome without having to go to trial, she is not afraid to hold the government to their burden to prove a client’s guilt before a jury of their peers and her winning trial record speaks for itself.

Her very first jury trial win is one of Chelsea’s best professional achievements to date. She had only been out of law school for a year and a half and was tasked with conducting the entire week-long trial for a client charged with six serious felony offenses. After less than 3 hours of deliberation, the jury came back with a unanimous verdict of not guilty on all counts. The joy, relief, and gratitude Chelsea’s client tearfully expressed when hugging her after the last “not guilty” is a feeling she’ll never forget.

At the end of the day, Chelsea’s job is to ensure that innocent people are not convicted for crimes they did not commit and that the government follows all proper procedures in every case. Perhaps more importantly, she believes it is her duty to remind prosecutors and judges that an individual is more than their alleged criminal actions.
